Even with all the craziness happening in the country, there are so many amazing and great things about our home country. She has such a rich and diverse history with some amazing and iconic stories and citizens and the world sees this too which has led to some iconic documentaries showing all these traits. Here are five documentaries about Nigeria and her people that you should definitely see

1. The Supreme Price

Hafsat Abiola faces the uphill challenge of transforming a corrupt government into a democracy capable of serving Nigeria’s women. The Supreme Price is an award winning feature length documentary film that follows the story of a young woman giving back to a country that took so much from her.

2. This Is Nollywood

A documentary about Nigeria’s fast-growing film industry Nollywood and all its quirks and idiosyncrasies. It follows Bond Emeruwa, a Nollywood director whose dream it is to create his own film armed with the barest minimum.

3. Finding Fela

Everyone loves a Fela story and this documentary is no different. Finding Fela tells the story of Fela Kuti’s life (1938 – 1997), his music, and his social and political importance. It gave a great insight on this amazing legend, his life, achievements and music.

4. Faaji Agba

Faaji Agba shows the musical culture of Nigeria from 1940 to present day through the lives of a group of sixty-eight to eighty-five-year-old master musicians discovered by Kunle Tejuoso, owner of Jazzhole Records. The documentary follows their lives and at one point a death. It is a beautiful film starring the likes of Fatai Rolling Dollar, Alaba Pedro, SF Olowookere, Ayinde Bakare and others.

5. Portrait of a Lone Farmer

Portrait of a lone farmer is a documentary about a Danish-Nigerian family.  It is a story about family the love they have and how it transcends any and all barriers including geography. It’s beautiful, it’s touching and is a must watch.
